This album is a collection of songs I heard
sung by my Grandfather, John P. Myrick, and Thomas C. Finlay at house parties
in St. Shotts and on Cape Pine. Although my Grandfather died in 1984
my Father had recorded many of them on a reel-to-reel recorder from 1968
to 1976. From these tapes and the memories of many relatives and
friends, I
collected and learned these songs as a teenager in the mid - 1980's. In order to record them with the honor they deserve, myself, Chris Andrews and Billy Sutton joined Rick Myrick on Cape Pine in June 2003. With Vince Walsh and Louis Chiaramonte in tow to film the project, we spent four great days there and concluded with a wicked house party when we were finished.
I recorded the entire album accapella,
unaccompanied by music, staying true to how these songs were always sung.
